What is the Gospel?

The word “gospel” means “good news.” In Christianity, the gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ—who He is, what He did, and why it matters for every person.

The Gospel: The Good News About Jesus

1. God Created Us for Relationship with Him

God made the world and humanity out of love. He designed us to know Him and live in harmony with Him and each other.

Genesis 1:27 – “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Revelation 4:11 – “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

2. Humanity Rebelled (This Is Sin)

Instead of trusting God, humans chose their own way. This broke our relationship with God and brought sin and death into the world.

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Isaiah 59:2 – “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”

3. God Sent Jesus to Rescue Us

Even though we turned away, God didn’t leave us. He sent His Son, Jesus, to live the perfect life we couldn’t live and to take the punishment for our sins.

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

4. Jesus Died and Rose Again

Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried. But three days later, He rose from the dead, proving He conquered sin and death.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

Romans 6:9 – “We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.”

5. We Are Invited to Believe and Be Forgiven

We can’t earn salvation by doing good things. It’s a gift. We receive it by faith—trusting in Jesus, turning away from sin, and following Him.

Ephesians 2:8–9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Acts 3:19 – “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

6. A New Life Now and Forever

When we trust in Jesus, we’re made new. God gives us His Spirit to help us live differently, and we’re promised eternal life with Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

John 11:25 – “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’”

Summary Verse:

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
